Route description

The cycle route starts in the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn, from where you cycle along the marked cycle route with the number K1A, which will take you to the starting point in Horní Mísečky. From Horní Mísečky the route changes to K13 and continues along the Masaryk road towards Vrbatova bouda. During the ride, you will be surrounded by typical mountain scenery that will literally captivate you. From there, it is only a short ride to the U Čtyř pánů signpost, from where you descend to Labská bouda.

The Labská bouda offers refreshments and a toilet, but it is also a great place to secure your bike for a short hike to the Elbe Spring. It's about a kilometre walk. You can walk without a bike or lead the bikes side by side. This rare natural resource is truly exceptional and worth seeing for yourself.

You will start your return on the same cycle path with the number K13. A really long descent awaits you, which will get your adrenaline pumping. On the way down, you will pass Jilemnicka Bouda and ride through Horní Mísečky to the Stopa buffet and restaurant, where you can rest and refresh yourself before the last section. Then you will return along the K1A cycle route from the starting point to the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn.

The whole cycle route is challenging due to the climb that needs to be climbed to the Elbe Spring. However, the way back offers a long descent. On the route you will also find plenty of opportunities for refreshments, which are needed during the demanding climb.

Vrbatova bouda

Vrbatova bouda belongs to a chain of summit huts, which represent solid points of reference for all inhabitants and visitors of the Krkonoše Mountains. It is located on the ridges of the Giant Mountains on the Golden Hill at an altitude of 1,400 m above sea level. In its immediate vicinity is the source of the Elbe and the Pančavský waterfall with a beautiful view of the Elbe mine. It is named after Václav Vrbata from Mříčná, who tragically died on April 24, 1913 during an international 50-kilometer ski race together with his friend Bohumil Hanč from Hrabačov.

Labská bouda

It is a popular stop for tourists heading to the source of the Elbe. Hotel Labská bouda is located in the first zone of the Giant Mountains National Park. It is situated at an altitude of 1340 m on the Elbe meadow northwest of Špindlerův Mlýn, less than 1 km from the source of the Elbe. The modern building from 1975 bears the same name as the inn, which burned down in 1965. However, the history of this place dates back to 1830, when an enterprising woman allegedly sold goat products and spirits to passers-by and had a small booth made of stones, bark and brushwood.

The source of the Elbe

The symbolic spring of the Elbe is modified for the sake of attractiveness for visitors to the Krkonoše Mountains, it lies in the peat bogs on the Elbe meadow at an altitude of 1387 meters. The rising water is enclosed in a stone ring, the surrounding space is paved and supplemented with benches for sitting. The stone wall near the ring depicts 26 large European cities through which the Elbe flows on its way to the Baltic Sea. There are also two memorial plaques installed here, the first of which was placed here by the Czech Tourist Club to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the birth of Jan Buchar, the second plaque mentions the 80th anniversary of organized tourism in the Krkonoše Mountains and at the same time the centenary of the birth of Jan Buchar. The red tourist route from Jilemnice was named after this educational promoter of tourism in the Krkonoše Mountains.
