Vrchlabí Chateau

Indoor

Popis

The Renaissance chateau, which replaced the original Gothic water fortress, was completed in 1546 as the residence of the powerful Christoph Gendorf of Gendorf.

The unknown builder was based on the scheme of an Italian castello (small fortress or fortress). The building was originally surrounded by a 12-metre-wide moat, through which the castle was entered by three bridges.

Today, the chateau is the seat of the municipal office and only the entrance hall is open to visitors, where it is possible to see wall paintings of the last four Krkonoše bears hunted next to the inlaid doors.

Along with the construction of the chateau, a chateau park was established, the current appearance of which comes from the design of the gardener Fuchs from the 2nd half of the 19th century. Not far from the park, there is a castle chapel and the tomb of the Černín-Morzin family hidden among the trees.
